Passion for Portraits

So on 2nd Ave. in Seattle, there are these three stores: "Fancy", "Schmancy" and "Pants".  They sell excellent quirky ephemera.  A few years ago, I pored through a collection of original portraits by a local artist at Schmancy.  The little pieces are no more than 1' x 1.5' each.

These made it home with me...

The little portraits are among my top 10 favorite possessions of all time.

On the back of each card, the artist has put together a character description:

Charming!  These inspired me and I made some of my own attempts at portraits.

First, I found a clipart face, traced it on a scrap of fabric and "coloured" with thread:

Strange but true...

Then I drew from a photo in a magazine:

These are totally novice and for my amusement.  But I am continuously drawn to wonderful mini-portraits when I come across them.   Because they are tiny, they seem more special!

P.S.  This week a Dutch friend is featuring some of my ideas.  Thanks, Lot!
