My favorite store for fashion finds is holding great contest at the moment: the call is out for vintage family photos which evoke the fashion spirit! The winner gets a nice little gift card.
You know I got busy! Thanks to my mama who let me scan and submit some of these gems...
Most, if not all of these photos were taken in Switzerland in the 20's, 30's and 40s. I love the ones where the Alps are the natural backdrop. Can't make this stuff up!

These are wonderful family portraits! Unfortunately most of the photos from my mother's side of the family were destroyed in the war.
ReplyDeleteI love looking at the few my mother has kept :)
Great, I love vintage photographs. Where taking pictures was something special and people would dress up. That little sailor is looking cute!
ReplyDeleteSo fascinating and so old world. I love old photos, especially the more candid ones outdoors. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhat great photographs! I love vintage photos, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love the one of the woman reading outside with the Alps in the background! Good luck on the contest :)
ReplyDeleteOkay, I might get clubbed for saying this, but I loved the days when women wore just dresses. I like my jeans just as much as the next gal, but there is something so stunning about a simple, well-made dress. I absolutely love the buttons on the black dress in the fourth set of pictures. So gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Franzen's "Freedom". Are you liking? He is one of those authors whom I desperately want to like, but getting through is works feel like such a chore. I started "Freedom" a long time ago but fell asleep every time I picked it up. Should I revisit it?
Hi Lana! Great to see a pink of perfection friendy! On Franzen: though I really do love his artful way of writing, I am fully admitting here that Freedom is a struggle to get through. He is so good at character development; that is the only reason I feel the need to finish...I want to see the characters through to the end! Am mildly annoyed at feeling kept hostage to the giant book though...so much else out there to read, as Sarah just outlined.
DeleteSo in answer to your question: revisit if you have the time. Freedom isn't going to make it into the top 10 of the last five years for me, though!
ps: I love the days when women wore dresses too! Don't you feel completely different when you're wearing one??
I love vintage photos! I have a wall of them hanging in my living room...I submitted it once for a contest but never heard anything! How special is your collection!
ReplyDeleteThe little guy with the missing front teeth is so charming. Great family photos.
ReplyDeleteLove these! I have to follow example and do something with mine!
ReplyDeleteAm so pleased that you are all so inspired by the clothes of yesteryear too!
ReplyDeleteWonderful pictures! I love looking at the oldies. The fashion, the cars (or horse and buggies). So fun!
