Inherit the Earth

Way back before we started a family, Mr. Hausfrau and I would go on weekend morning hikes together and talk about things like whether or not we had all the ingredients for the champagne butter sauce to go on the sea bass we were making for a dinner party the next day.

Nowadays, we spend morning hikes with our two littles looking for fairy houses and wondering whether a raccoon family might live in this specific burrow or not.

Sharing our love of nature with our children is effortless and inevitable.

We hope they carry the memory of these hikes in their hearts forever, just like we will.

    1. Well, an island for birds! I think it's a tree stump, with a little tree growing out of it. The lake is about 20 minutes from our house...we walk around it often...

    1. Ya, we Northwesterners are spoiled. I think I most cherish what you can't see...the air here is unlike anywhere I've been in my travels. It smells fresh, of ocean, cleansing...it's why I can't imagine living anywhere else!

    1. It's funny because in the summer, that lake is packed with swimmers, boats, picnicking families. We had an almost private audience the morning we hiked...it was very calming indeed!

    1. So good to hear you still remember hikes with your dad. My dad would take us walking rain or shine, teaching us to be all-weather walkers! Such special memories, you're right.

    1. Yes these types of lessons are usually unconscious ones we pass on for generations, aren't they? I mean, the alternative is to drag our kids on regular expensive holidays but honestly, they're still very young (ie: wouldn't notice if they were down the road or in France as long as they were somehow amused) and with such playgrounds in our backyard, it only makes sense to explore locally!

    1. Thanks Daniela! We walk together regularly...every season looks so different I could post on them as they happen and they would never look the same, but always beautiful. Our part of Canada is spectacular, undoubtedly!

    1. We live not far from Vancouver, BC. The Pacific Northwest really is amazingly beautiful. I grew up here, but never take my surroundings for granted! Thanks, Andrea...
