Musings on Perfectionism

I love a decisive person.

Someone who is sure what the right wine pairing is.  Has just the right accessory in mind for the ensemble.  I don't always go with these suggestions, but I do admire the confidence behind them!

Maybe this is why Martha Stewart is still one of my go-to sources for almost anything culinary.  Recently I was having my (very organised and always perfectly assembled) friend over for a morning coffee date and needed just the right baked good for the occasion.  I knew Martha would suggest something perfect...ideal...complimentary to our 'kaffeeklatsch'!

Apple-Rosemary Tea Cakes

Another thing I love:  Martha never has an existential crisis.  Not a public one anyway!  I've never heard the woman bemoan her lack of sense of self.  She never needs a retreat to "find herself".  Her self-assured, unwavering public persona causes me to trust her...and ergo, her product.  This is a fairly recent self-discovery - as a consumer, I buy into perfect packaging.

How about you?  Who do you trust to suggest just the right wine?  The perfect dessert to end a rich meal?  The boot of the season?  I want to hear about your infallible sources!

    1. The cakes came together quite quickly, Sian...I totally recommend them! There's something about rosemary that elevates a baked good...

  2. They looks delicious! For some reason, I can not look at the link. I love the different patterns and colours in the picture. I don't drink wine, and for dessert, I mostly pick one of Nigella Lawson's recipes.

    1. Ah yes! Nigella! She does make it appear to be easy to put together something completely delicious. Must poke about in her cookbooks next time I'm at the library!

      Think I've fixed the link...

    1. Yes and it was funny to me that she even treated her jail time Martha-style: might as well knit a poncho for myself while I'm in here! Lemons out of lemonade...

    1. Oh yes, I agree...she can be quite a pill. And I always remind myself: she has a huge team of people making her look good. But she does have a certain aesthetic. The simplicity that ties all together is what I think I love...

  7. On the cooking front, here in oz we have the big Stephanie Alexander bible of a cookbook. Wine, no idea, life? Shoes? I wing it.
